StoneStone is situated midway along the Trent and Mersey Canal. Stone has a long history as a canal town. The canal, which opened in 1771, was financed by Josiah Wedgwood who wanted to use the waterways to transport materials to the potteries and finished wares to his customers. Stone now welcomes over 30,000 visitors every year by narrow boat, maintaining its image as a leading canal town.
